A Little Bit of Everything That is Havana

You are in Havana Cuba! Your guide, a well-educated local, will welcome you with a bit of history as you start with a walk. For the next few hours, you will take in the oldest parts of the city while listening to stories and truths about life in Cuba. Your walking itinerary will show you the Plaza des Armas, the Plaza de la Catedral, and the interior of the Ambos Mundo Hotel, where Hemingway had a room above the bar he frequented. There is much to take in and your guide will work at your pace so more than these sights we will not promise during this portion of the tour.

We will use taxi bikes to tour areas that are further outside the city center. Included in this portion of the tour are views of Prado Street on your way to Central Park, one of the busiest places in the city. We have selected one of two top paladars for some local yet innovative Cuban food. They are lovely and truly an experience beyond expectation.

Your classic cars are ready and now your view of Havana will be expanded further to see Reina Street, Revolution Square, Columbus Cemetery, a drive through the Havana Forest, the residential district of Miramar, and 5th Avenue. Hemingway’s Havana

For over 30 years Hemingway and Havana have had a mythic relationship. Cuba played such an important part of Hemingway’s life that he wrote 7 books there, among them ‘The Old Man and the Sea’, ‘Islands in the Stream’ and ‘Movable Feast’. We will visit Hemingway’s home, just outside of the city of Havana, which is called La Finca Vigía, which means The Lookout. The home was left to the Cuban people and it has undergone some restoration. It is full of books, lots of knickknacks and an old Victrola along with favorite records.

There is much more that delivers the atmosphere of past attraction of the author and you will move on to the town of Cojimar, just a short ride away. It is interesting to see the lovely homes in town as you head for Hemingway’s favorite bar, the inspiration for ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. Las Terraza is loaded with photographs from that time period and a table overlooking the sea was the spot that Hemingway favored. It was also the favorite of his captain, the late Gregorio Fuentes, to whom he left his boat. You will take a short walk to the waterfront where a statue of Hemingway was created from old anchors, props, and tools salvaged by local fishermen to honor his memory.

You will have a nice lunch at Ajiaco café with Mojito lessons! Heading back to the city, you will stop at Morro Castle.

You will get your sense of the city from this ride and even if you toured earlier in the day, repeating some of these streets in the early evening delivers a different scene.

At the dancing venue you will have the chance to enjoy live music played by Cuban musicians and dance alongside with locals.

After shaking to the rhythm you will could refresh with a Cuban cocktail in one of Havana’s real authentic private bar-restaurants that are popping up all over the city. Delicious food served by the locals who proudly have learned culinary skills using the produce at hand in creative ways. During your dinner you will find yourself relaxing in this setting, giving you a perfect opportunity to ask and share information about life in Cuba and your home as well. Private Full Day Tour of Cienfuegos

We will enjoy a day in Cienfuegos, the city dubbed as the Pearl of the South and also known to Cubans as the Paris the Caribbean. Geographically, the city is split into two distinct parts: the colonnaded central zone with its stately Paseo del Prado and graceful park; and Punta Gorda, a thin knife of land slicing into the bay with a clutch of outrageously eclectic palaces built by the moneyed classes in the 1920s.

As we continue to the mouth of the bay of Cienfuegos, it will be difficult not to notice a majestic military structure ahead, the fortress “Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Jagua.” At midnight, the “Blue Lady” (residential ghost) is said to haunt the small fortress that overlooks a fishing village perched above the water.

Our last stop will be Cayo Carenas, which is an island within Cienfuegos. The island was used for wealthy families of the prosperous sea locality, but now is almost abandoned with a small population of fisherman. Here you will gather for a local dinner provided by your guest.

The city center spreads out around Parque Cespedes, the main square. Visitors are drawn along Calle Heredia, the most famous and festive street in the city. In the summer, this street becomes a state for amateur artists. One of the most famous sites is the Diego Velázquez House, reputedly the oldest building in Cuba; it dates from 1516.

Now it is time to eat and we will head east to the coastal town of Playa Siboney. This is one of Santiago’s most popular beaches from June-September. Take in the breathtaking views while enjoying a delicious lunch. After lunch, we’ll explore a bit of the countryside before returning to Santiago.

Best Way to See Cuba Comfortably

The best time to see Cuba is now, and currently the best way to see Cuba is on a luxury cruise ship. Due to the lack of infrastructure investment over the last 50 plus years, traveling around Cuba overland and staying on the island can be expensive, even for a very sub-par experience.  Therefore, we are partnering with Azamara Club Cruises for a 10-night all-inclusive package that will allow you to spend 5 full days in Cuba, including 3 days and 2 full overnights in Havana.  We will also visit two other and very different parts of the island, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.

A Fully Inclusive Experience

We have included everything that we knowyou would want, including those items that most people pay for once on a trip.  This includes all meals, beverages (including alcohol), entertainment, 7 premium excursions totaling over $2000 in value, a personal travel concierge and much more.   We have you covered from your arrival in Miami. with a complimentary hotel night and a tour of Miami’s famous Little Havana.  Then once onboard the Azamara Journey, you will have all the inclusive comforts of a luxury Azamara Club Cruises experience, with every detail taken care of.  You will tour around Havana in 1950’s automobiles, explore Hemingway’s Havana, learn about the local community while they teach us to roll cigars and make Cuban cocktails, and enjoy a step back in time for a show the World-Famous Tropicana night club.  After these experiences, we will head to the other side of the island to see several charming and highly authentic locations where large cruise ships simply do not fit.  We have a day at sea between each stop to relax and enjoy what Azamara and the Caribbean Sea have to offer.  This experience is designed to be worry free from start to finish. We have included and Danny will personally host all excursions and activities; which is generally the most expensive and daunting part of any trip to Cuba.  We have navigated the legal issues and ALL our tours are fully compliant with Cuban and American regulations

Best Time To See Cuba Before It Changes Forever!

Due to the lack of infrastructure investment over the last 50 plus years, traveling around Cuba overland and staying on the island can be expensive, even for a very sub-par experience.  Currently all of the major hotel companies and major investment firm are starting to pour billions of dollars into building new hotels, resorts and tourist friendly shopping areas.  Once this happens, Cuba will change forever and start to look a lot more like Cancun, and a lot less like the Cuba of the 1950’s.  Join us on this journey back in time before this experience disappears forever.

Smaller Ship for Smaller Ports

Coach Genung and I fell in love with Azamara Club Cruises on our first cruise with them in 2009, and we are both incredibly excited to be hosting this adventure.  Since that first cruise, between the two of us we have spent almost five months onboard both the Azamara Journey and the Azamara Quest.  There is something special on Azamara that I have never been able to replicate on another cruise line.  The size of the ship is perfect.  With less than 700 passengers you have the space to have amenities such as a spa, casino, showroom and library, but it never feels crowded.  The food is outstanding and by having drinks included with your voyage, you have the peace of mind that an all-inclusive experience brings. Many of the staff members are people that we have gotten to know over the years and they are attentive, service oriented and most of all loyal.  Many of them know us by name and have been providing amazing service to us for over 9 years.  The fact that they keep coming back is a rarity in the cruise industry and says everything.  Coach G and I are looking forward to this voyage and hope you can join us!
