IMG_0349I have often said that the time invested in flying is as important as the money invested. I am a huge believer in the value of longer journeys. I know that not everyone can take off for 3 to 4 weeks at a time, but I am always surprised by people who can afford to add a few more days, yet cut their adventure short. I am currently on my way to Europe for a 7-night Tulip Time cruise with AMA Waterways and we are most definitely spending a few extra nights at the beginning of our journey. If I am going to invest more than 24 hours in the air, I always try to arrive at least a few days early so I can beat jet lag prior to the core part of my adventure.

A 7-night river cruise is perfect for many people, yet if you arrive the first day it may take you 2-3 days to get your sleeping schedule right and then you are halfway done. On this itinerary we decided to add a few nights at the beginning to not only beat jet lag before our cruise, but to enjoy Amsterdam in a relaxed fashion. I found it delightful to wake up each day, have a leisurely breakfast and then do one or two things per day.
